Major Defence Boost: India signs USD 1 billion deal with US firm GE for fighter jet engines
In a major defence landmark, HAL on Friday announced that it has signed a deal worth around USD one billion with US firm General Electric. The US firm is set to supply 113 F404-GE-IN20 engines along with a support package to execute the 97 LCA Mk1A aircraft program. Amid the ongoing tariff discussions, the defence deal worth billions comes as a major boost for the Indian Defence Forces. According to a post on X shared by HAL, “The engines are expected to be delivered from 2027 and are anticipated to be completed by 2032”. Earlier in the week, HAL and Russia’s Public Joint Stock Company United Aircraft Corporation signed a MoU to produce, the SJ-100, in India. In India, GE Aerospace has operated for over 42 years in the industry including engines, avionics, manufacturing, and more. Since 1986, GE has been working with Aeronautical Development Agency and HAL for development of India’s Light Combat Aircraft with F404 engines.
