President Lee Jae Myung has announced a strict punishment policy against hate and discriminatory expressions towards specific countries or races.

He also requested a review of related laws, stating that political party banners are inciting hate.

The level of expression is gradually rising to the point of hate, going beyond simple opposition.

President Lee Jae Myung, who has warned that anti-China protests are self-destructive acts that lower national dignity, has issued a stronger directive.

[President Lee Jae Myung: “This is a clear criminal act that goes beyond the limits of freedom of expression. We must quickly establish a punishment mechanism for hate speech.”]

President Lee emphasized that extreme expressions expand social unrest and threaten democracy, stating that they should not be tolerated.

[President Lee Jae Myung: “You should consider it a crime that needs to be expelled, as it threatens people’s daily lives.”]

He also called for measures against the indiscriminate posting of political party banners that incite hate.

Although related laws were amended during his time as party leader, removing restrictions, he stated that if there is serious abuse, the law should be amended or abolished.

[President Lee Jae Myung: “I hear that a party is being created just to hang banners. We need to discuss this with the parties and make amendments.”]

Meanwhile, regarding the spreading anti-China protests, the Chinese government has also expressed its position.

Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, Dai Bing, pointed out that “the far-right forces in Korea spreading anti-China rumors and holding protests harm the friendship between the two countries.”

He urged our government to “take measures for a fundamental resolution.”
