Audio captures captain’s distress call after Iran fires on Indian tanker in Hormuz
This was the moment the captain of an Indian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz radioed a distress call after his vessel was fired upon by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) gunboats on Saturday (Apr 18).

The captain of the Sanmar Herald can be heard telling the IRGC — also known as Sepah — “You gave me clearance to go. You are firing now. Let me turn back.”

An Indian government source later confirmed that the crew on board and the vessel were safe.

Iran reversed its decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, firing on tankers attempting to pass through the waterway.

A second Indian vessel, Jag Arnav, was also forced to turn back after being hit. India has since summoned Iran’s envoy, flagging its “deep concern” over the attacks. #waroniran #straitofhormuz
