UN maritime agency preparing Hormuz evacuation plan
The Singapore Maritime Week kicked off on Tuesday (Apr 21) with global leaders gathering amid rising geopolitical tensions. The crisis in the Strait of Hormuz has left the maritime industry grappling with higher shipping costs, disrupted trade routes, energy security and pressure on prices. Arsenio Dominguez, secretary-general of the International Maritime Organization, a specialised agency under the United Nations, tells CNA’s Roland Lim that it is preparing a framework to evacuate thousands of stranded seafarers.
