Police Officer Killed In San Fernando Station Security Breach
A security breach at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station has left a female officer dead and the armory compromised. Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has confirmed the murder of WPC Anushka Eversley, alongside the theft of a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition.

Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has confirmed the murder of WPC Anushka Eversley, which occurred inside the San Fernando Municipal Police Station. Along with the loss of life, the Commissioner noted that a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was stolen from the precinct.

“A quantity of weapons and ammunition has also been reported missing from that facility. The matter is under active investigation and all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure a thorough inquiry and the recovery of those weapons.”

Investigations are currently underway to identify the exact amount of hardware taken during the incident.

“Checks are currently being undertaken at this time to determine the exact amount. I see all sorts of figures being bandied around on social media so we are trying to determine the exact amount but thus far all the weapons are said to be the property of the Municipal Police Department and none from private citizens.”

While the scale of the theft is being assessed, the Commissioner assured the public that there is currently no information to suggest a targeted attack against law enforcement by any outside party.

Meanwhile, Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the officer, while expressing confidence in the TTPS’s ability to handle the case. He noted, however, that dismantling long-standing criminal trends is a gradual process.

“Things have been going out of control for a number of years and you all expect us to arrive and just fix it immediately; it don’t work like that you know. Criminality is something that grows from strength to strength so we must now intercept it, treat with it, dismantle it and then you will see the benefit of it. It’s not a now process, it is an ongoing process.”

As the probe widens, investigators are not ruling anything out. Commissioner Guevarro admitted that if the murder and theft prove to be an “inside job,” the betrayal would be profound.

“I would be very disheartened that an officer, a sworn officer, sworn to protect the rights of citizens, uphold the laws of Trinidad and Tobago, could do something so heinous to one of his own fellow officers.”

Every officer on duty at the time of the incident is to be interviewed as authorities work to reconstruct the events that led to the death of Anushka Eversley.
