Japan overhauls decades-old arms export rules in major policy shift
Japan is lifting restrictions in place since the blanket ban in the 1970s on the export of lethal arms. It now allows – under conditions – the sale of fighter jets, missiles and destroyers overseas, meeting twin goals of growth and defence. But critics say the move violates Japan’s pacifist constitution. CNA’s Senior Correspondent Michiyo Ishida has more.
