Thai Forces Clash with Cambodian Villagers at Disputed Border | Vantage with Palki Sharma | N18G
Tensions flared again along the Thailand–Cambodia border this week. Thai forces allegedly used tear gas, rubber bullets and sound blasts after Cambodian villagers protested the laying of barbed wire, which they saw as a threat to their land. At least 23 people were injured, including civilians, a soldier and a monk. Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet accused Thailand of widening the conflict zone and forcibly evicting families, appealing to ASEAN and the UN for support. Thailand denied the claims, calling the villagers illegal occupants. The clashes follow July’s deadly fighting that killed 43 and displaced over 300,000.
