Voting for 142 seats in the second phase is scheduled for April 29—a day when the people of Bengal will decisively determine whether Mamata returns to power or if a change of guard is imminent. In the previous election, these very 142 seats paved the way for Mamata Banerjee’s return to the Chief Minister’s office. Out of these 142 seats, the TMC secured 123 victories, while the BJP had to settle for a mere 18 seats. Consequently, the second phase holds immense significance for the TMC. If the TMC replicates its previous performance in this region, Mamata could score a fourth consecutive electoral victory—leaving the BJP to wait once again.
