LIVE:US Secretary of State Marco Rubio meets with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem,Israel
Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with U.S Secretary of State met in Jerusalem, on Monday (September 15). Herzog commended on the success of the ‘Abraham Accords’ which was signed exactly five years ago. Rubio joined Herzog in calling for the expansion of the landmark normalisation agreements between Israel and several Arab states.
Herzog recalled the historic moment when the accords were signed on the White House lawn in 2020, under the auspices of then-President Donald Trump.
Rubio’s arrival in the region comes amid tensions with fellow U.S. allies in the Middle East over Israel’s strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar and the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank.
