Greta Thunberg’s flotilla reaches Greece with aid for Gaza challenging Israel’s naval blockade
Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and fellow campaigners were seen in high spirits aboard vessels in a flotilla attempting to deliver aid to Gaza on September 25. The Thunberg group seeks to challenge Israel’s naval blockade of the enclave for the third time. The Global Sumud Flotilla, consisting of about 50 civilian boats, aims to break the blockade, which Israel says is necessary to prevent arms from reaching Hamas. A video footage was released showing Thunberg on the deck of one of the boats, appearing calm and joking with activists. Thunberg accused Israel of “systematically” starving Gaza and called on governments to halt arms transfers and apply diplomatic pressure. Israel denies the allegations, stating the blockade is a security measure and accusing flotilla activists of supporting the militant group. The activist warned of increasing risks as the flotilla nears Gaza, alleging recent attacks involving drones and unidentified objects that caused damage to several vessels.
