Amid reports that Israel does not want Turkish forces to be involved in any stabilisation force for Gaza, Yusuf Alabarda, a former NATO officer, notes that Israel has a say only on what happens within its own internationally recognised borders. “For this reason, I do believe that the Turkish forces will be inside the Gaza Strip,” Alabarda told Al Jazeera from Ankara, the Turkish capital. He explained that Turkiye has vast experience in conflict areas, as well as technical expertise in reconstruction. For example, the Turkish government has responded to earthquakes that have caused widespread damage.“Two years ago, there was a huge earthquake inside Turkiye, and there were temporarily built barracks that Turkiye offered to the victims of the earthquake. They are available now for [use in] Gaza,” Alabarda said.
