The BJP’s rising influence is currently reflected in its governance of 16 Indian states and Union Territories, as of mid-April 2026. Including Samrat Choudhary, there are 16 incumbent BJP Chief Ministers across the country. These include leaders like Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra), Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam), Bhajan Lal Sharma (Rajasthan), Dr Mohan Yadav (Madhya Pradesh), Dr Pramod Sawant (Goa), Vishnu Deo Sai (Chhattisgarh), Bhupendrabhai Patel (Gujarat), Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand), Nayab Singh Saini (Haryana), Pema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh), Dr Manik Saha (Tripura), along with recently appointed leaders such as Mohan Charan Majhi in Odisha, Rekha Gupta in Delhi and Yumnam Khemchand Singh in Manipur.

While the BJP’s direct governance covers nearly two-thirds of the population, its influence is even broader when considering states ruled by its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners, which collectively govern approximately 70% of the country’s population. Amit Shah has consistently maintained that the BJP’s peak is yet to come. He views states like West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu as “new frontiers” where the party’s ultimate peak will be realized once it forms governments there.
