According to Manila police, schools have been closed due to the violence. Police issued a statement stating that the situation is now under control, but violence and vandalism will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Student activist Althea Trinidad said that people mired in poverty are losing their homes and futures, while some amass vast wealth from their taxes, which they use to fund their luxury cars, foreign trips, and large corporate transactions. Meanwhile, Cardinal Pablo Virgilio Davide, head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, appealed to the public to hold peaceful protests and demand the strengthening of democracy.

नेपाल के बाद अब फिलीपींस में भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ जनता का गुस्सा फूट, राजधानी मनीला में राष्ट्रपति भवन के पास पुलिस और प्रदर्शनकारियों के बीच हुई हिंसक झड़पों में 49 लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया, जबकि कम से कम 70 पुलिसकर्मी घायल हुए हैं। यह हिंसा उस वक्त भड़की जब करीब 33,000 लोगों की शांतिपूर्ण रैली भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन कर रही थी। आरोप है कि प्रदर्शनकारियों ने पत्थर, बोतलें और आग लगाने वाले बम फेंके, जिसके जवाब में पुलिस ने आंसू गैस का इस्तेमाल किया। जिससे कई पुलिसकर्मी घायल हो गए | पुलिस ने प्रदर्शनकारियों को तितर-बितर करने के लिए आंसू गैस का इस्तेमाल भी किया

प्रदर्शनकरियो का कहना है की बाद बाढ़ नियंत्रण परियोजनाओं में कथित घोटालों और भारी कमीशन के खिलाफ विरोध कर रहे थे।आपको बता दे राष्ट्रपति मार्कोस जूनियर ने जुलाई में इस घोटाले को उजागर किया था और जांच के लिए एक स्वतंत्र आयोग गठित किया था।

मनीला पुलिस के मुताबिक, हिंसा के चलते स्कूलों को बंद कर दिया गया है। पुलिस ने बयान जारी कर कहा है कि स्थिति अब नियंत्रण में है, लेकिन हिंसा और बर्बरता को किसी भी सूरत में बर्दाश्त नहीं किया जाएगा। छात्र कार्यकर्ता अल्थिया त्रिनिदाद ने कहा कि गरीबी में डूबे लोग अपना घर और भविष्य खो रहे हैं, जबकि कुछ लोग उनके टैक्स से बड़ी संपत्ति कमाते हैं जिसका उपयोग वे अपनी लक्जरी कारों, विदेशी यात्राओं और बड़े कॉर्पोरेट लेनदेन के लिए करते हैं. वहीं, फिलीपींस के कैथोलिक बिशप्स कॉन्फ्रेंस के प्रमुख कार्डिनल पाब्लो वर्जिलियो डेविड ने जनता से शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शन करने और लोकतंत्र को मजबूत करने की अपील की है। मांग करने का अपील किया.
