The Chhattisgarh Waqf Board has issued an order to hoist the tricolour at the main gates of all mosques, madrasas and dargahs in the state on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15. Waqf Board Chairman Dr Salim Raj said that the tricolour is a “symbol of honour and pride” which is not associated with any religion. He said, “One who does not love the tricolour has no right to live on the land of Mother India.” However, the order has stirred controversy. Some religious institutions called it an attempt to “forcibly impose nationalism on religious places”.
