अब हम जो विश्लेषण करने वाले हैं, वो परंपरा से जुड़ा हुआ विषय है। आपने कब्रिस्तान में मुसलमानों की कब्रें देखी होंगी। उसके बारे में सुना होगा। लेकिन आज हम आपको हिंदुओं की कब्र दिखाने वाले हैं। मित्रों सनातन संस्कृति में मृत्यु के पश्चात शरीर का दाह संस्कार किया जाता है। विशेषकर उत्तर भारत में वैदिक मान्यता है कि मृत शरीर के दाह संस्कार से ही मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। ऋग्वेद के अग्निसुक्ति में दाह-संस्कार को अनिवार्य बताया गया है। लिखा है कि मृतक के शरीर के अग्नि को समर्पित करने से आत्मा स्वर्ग पहुंचती है। अग्नि को शुद्धिकर्ता और आत्मा का वाहक माना गया है। हालांकि गरुड़ पुराण में शिशुओं को दफानने या फिर नदी में बहाने की बात कही गई है। साधु-संत और संन्यासियों को भी समाधि दी जाती है। वे पद्मासन अवस्था में समाधि लेते हैं।

In the Agnisukta of the Rigveda, cremation is described as mandatory. It is written that by offering the body of the deceased to the fire, the soul reaches heaven. Fire is considered a purifier and a carrier of the soul. However, the Garuda Purana mentions burying or immersing the bodies of infants in a river. Saints and ascetics are also given samadhi (burial in a meditative posture). They take samadhi in the lotus position (Padmasana).
