चार दिन तक चलने वाले इस पर्व की शुरुआत नहाय-खाय से होती है और दूसरे दिन खरना पूजा का विशेष आयोजन किया जाता है. यह दिन छठ महापर्व की सबसे पवित्र और अनुशासित रस्मों में से एक माना जाता है. इस दिन व्रती पूरे दिन उपवास रखते हैं और शाम को सूर्यास्त के बाद खरना का प्रसाद ग्रहण करके 36 घंटे का निर्जला व्रत आरंभ करते हैं.

This four-day festival begins with Nahay-Khaay, and on the second day, a special ceremony, Kharna Puja, is held. This day is considered one of the most sacred and disciplined rituals of Chhath Mahaparva. On this day, devotees observe a full day of fasting and, after sunset, partake of the Kharna Prasad (offerings) and begin a 36-hour Nirjala fast.
