नारियल को हिंदू धर्म में ‘श्रीफल’ भी कहा जाता है। यह शब्द दो भागों में बंटा है: “श्री” का अर्थ होता है लक्ष्मी यानी समृद्धि और “फल” का अर्थ है फल या परिणाम। इसलिए, श्रीफल को शुभता और सम्पन्नता का प्रतीक माना गया है। वही दूसरा आता है :देवताओं को प्रिय फल: ऐसा कहा जाता है कि नारियल भगवान को चढ़ाया जाने वाला एकमात्र फल है जो बिना काटे-छांटे, वैसा का वैसा चढ़ाया जाता है। यह उसकी पवित्रता और संपूर्णता का प्रतीक है।
अगला है नारियल फोड़ना — बलि की परंपरा से जुड़ा हुआ प्रतीक: प्राचीन काल में जब यज्ञ या हवन जैसे कर्मकांड किए जाते थे, तब कई बार पशुबलि की परंपरा भी होती थी। लेकिन समय के साथ जैसे-जैसे अहिंसा का महत्व बढ़ा, लोगों ने बलि के स्थान पर नारियल को प्रतीकात्मक बलि के रूप में अपनाया।

Therefore, Shreephal is considered a symbol of auspiciousness and prosperity. Another belief is that it is a fruit dear to the gods: It is said that the coconut is the only fruit offered to God that is presented whole, without being cut or altered. This symbolizes its purity and wholeness. Next, there is the custom of breaking the coconut—a symbol associated with the tradition of sacrifice: In ancient times, during religious rituals like yajna or havan, animal sacrifices were often performed. But as the importance of non-violence grew over time, people adopted the coconut as a symbolic substitute for animal sacrifice.
