अमेरिका के सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने ट्रंप को ऐसा झटका दिया कि जो ट्रंप अपने अलावा किसी और की बात सुनना नहीं चाहते थे, वो अब बातचीत के लिए अपने मंत्री को भारत भेज रहे हैं. ट्रेड डील को लेकर बातचीत के लिए भारतीय टीम के अमेरिका नहीं पहुंचने पर ट्रंप के वाणिज्य मंत्री हॉवर्ड लुटनिक ख़ुद भारत पहुंच गए. लुटनिक दिल्ली में भारत के वाणिज्य मंत्री पीयूष गोयल से मिले. ख़ास बात ये है कि लुटनिक पहले से तय कार्यक्रम के बिना पीयूष गोयल से मिलने के लिए पहुंचे. यानी इसे एक सरप्राइज़ दौरा कहा जा सकता है. वैसे तो उनके भारत दौरे का एक कारण शादी में भाग लेने को बताया गया है लेकिन शादी के समारोह में शामिल होने से पहले उन्होंने भारत के वाणिज्य मंत्री से बातचीत की. लुटनिक का ये दौरा प्राइवेट बताया गया लेकिन इसके बावजूद उन्होंने आधिकारिक बैठक की. इस दौरान दोनों देशों के बीच व्यापार संबंधों को मज़बूत करने पर चर्चा हुई.

Lutnick’s visit was described as private, but he nevertheless held an official meeting. During this meeting, discussions focused on strengthening trade relations between the two countries.
