Barielly के सिटी मजिस्ट्रेट अलंकार अग्निहोत्री ने यूजीसी के नए नियमों और शंकराचार्य स्वामी अविमुक्तेश्वरानंद से जुड़ी घटना के विरोध में पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया और सरकार पर जमकर भड़के. उन्होंने सरकार पर ब्राह्मण विरोधी रवैये का आरोप लगाया और कहा कि समता समिति जैसे प्रावधान मेधावी छात्रों के भविष्य के लिए खतरा बन सकते हैं. उनके इस्तीफे के बाद राजनीतिक गलियारों में बहस शुरू हो गई है.

Bareilly City Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri resigned from his post in protest against the new UGC rules and the incident involving Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand, and strongly criticized the government.
