In a major relief for 313 teachers in the North Bengal hills, the Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court has issued an interim stay on the single bench’s order to cancel their appointments. Earlier, Justice Biswajit Basu had invalidated these jobs citing illegal recruitment practices under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA). However, on Wednesday (December 24, 2025), the Division Bench of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury stayed the termination for 12 weeks. The court observed that these teachers have been serving for a long time and the single bench had not considered the political context of the hills.
