WION Switzerland Blast LIVE: At Least 40 Dead, Over 100 Injured in New Year Bar Explosion | WION

Around 40 people were killed and at least 100 others injured after a powerful explosion and fire tore through a crowded bar during New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, police said.

The blast occurred at around 1:30 am local time at a venue called Le Constellation. Authorities have said there is currently no indication of a deliberate attack and are treating the incident as an accident, possibly linked to fireworks.

Victims include foreign nationals, and a helpline has been set up for families. A major rescue operation involving helicopters and dozens of ambulances was launched, and the area was sealed off with a temporary no-fly zone. Swiss authorities have opened a full investigation into the cause of the explosion.
