WION India Plans Deep-Ocean Research Lab 6,000 Meters Beneath the Sea | WION Podcast
India is developing a groundbreaking deep-ocean habitation concept that aims to place a research facility nearly 6,000 meters below sea level. The mission is led by NIOT under the Samudrayaan programme, which also includes the Matsya-6000 submersible designed to carry a three-member crew for deep-sea exploration. This facility would allow scientists to study marine geology, ecosystems, mining prospects and underwater resources directly at extreme depths. The project marks a major leap in deep-sea research and positions India among the few countries pushing exploration beyond the ocean’s twilight zone.
