#WION Asteroid ALERT! 520-Foot Big Object Closes In On Earth | WION Originals

A massive asteroid named 2025 FA22 — taller than Delhi’s Qutub Minar and traveling at a mind-blowing 24,127 mph — will make its closest approach to Earth on September 18, 2025. The space rock is estimated to be 520 feet (160 meters) wide, placing it well within the class of potentially hazardous asteroids, though NASA confirms there is no collision risk.
FA22 belongs to the Aten group, known for crossing Earth’s orbit. On Sept 18, it will pass Earth at a distance of 523,000 miles — relatively close by cosmic standards. Scientists are using this rare event to refine orbital models, asteroid compositions, and improve planetary defense strategies.
ISRO is also ramping up its asteroid-tracking capabilities, preparing for future missions including the much-anticipated Apophis flyby in 2029.
