White House says there will be ‘a lot of pain’ if no shutdown deal
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Office of Management and Budget is continuing to work with agencies on layoffs of federal workers amid a government shutdown, adding, “unfortunately there’s going to be a lot of pain inflicted” if no deal is reached. 
 
The government shutdown is now in its sixth day, with Trump’s Republicans and congressional Democrats still at an impasse.
