What is Trump’s plan for exiting the Iran war? #CGTN

What is Trump’s plan for exiting the Iran war?
US President Donald Trump delivered his first national address on the Iran war, claiming major victories but also raising more questions than answers. He claimed the war is near completion, but warned of intensifying strikes in the coming weeks. While saying the US doesn’t need Iran’s oil, he has previously floated the idea of “taking it.” Trump has even suggested that countries reliant on the Strait of Hormuz should “just take it” themselves. What exactly are Washington’s objectives? Are these contradictions part of a strategy, or signs of a deeper lack of clarity? And can the two sides reach a deal any time soon?

Guests in this edition of Dialogue are Ross Harrison, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute and author of the new book “Decoding Iran’s Foreign Policy”; Professor Seyed Mohammad Marandi at the University of Tehran; and Mark Seddon, director at the Centre for UN Studies at the University of Buckingham and also the former speechwriter for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
