इंग्लिश बाज़ार किसी ज़माने में बंगाल का सबसे आबाद शहर हुआ करता था. अंग्रेजों ने यहां बड़ी-बड़ी फैक्ट्रियां लगाई थीं. ज़माना गुजरा, इंग्लिश फैक्ट्रियां बंद हो गईं. यहां का बाज़ार भी सिमट गया. लेकिन नाम रह गया- इंग्लिश बाज़ार. रोजगार के नाम पर यहां खेती और दुकानदारी है और जिन्हें कोई काम नहीं मिलता वो यहां से दूसरे शहरों में काम ढूंढ़ने चला जाता है. यहां का मुसलमान किसके साथ है – ये जानने के लिए इंडिया टीवी की टीम मालदा के इंग्लिश बाज़ार पहुंची.
English Bazar was once the most bustling city in Bengal. The British had established large-scale factories here. As time passed, the English factories shut down, and the local market, too, shrank. Yet, the name endured—English Bazar. In terms of employment, the only options available here are farming and shopkeeping; those unable to find work leave for other cities in search of a livelihood. To find out where the local Muslim community stands, the India TV team traveled to English Bazar in Malda.
