‘We have to be prepared’ #israel
Two years on from the October 7 Hamas attacks, Dateline reports from inside Israel on what people think about the conflict in Gaza, the actions of the Netanyahu government, and what life is like there now.
Australian Israeli Paul Hakim is one of several interviewed for the documentary – he talked to Dateline about being prepared amid risks of missile strikes.
Much of Israeli society is focused on the return of the remaining hostages held by Hamas. There are believed to be 20 hostages still alive in Gaza.
According to polling, the majority of Israelis would like to see some end to the fighting in exchange for a return of the hostages.
The majority of Israelis – 79 per cent – also say they are not very, or not at all concerned, about what is happening in Gaza, according to the Israeli Democracy Institute. The IDI’s Professor Tamar Hermann says this is largely due to the continued holding of Israeli hostages.
