War on Iran: The consequences and prospects of a ceasefire
US President Donald Trump, in a televised address, declared the conflict with Iran could wrap up within two to three weeks. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has written an open letter to the American public, asking whether the Trump administration’s war with his country is putting “America First.” On April 2, a virtual meeting on the Strait of Hormuz, hosted by Britain, called for “the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait.” For his part, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has been actively making many phone conversations with international counterparts, focused on de-escalating Mideast tensions. He’s keen on brokering ceasefire negotiations toward regional stability. Recent calls include discussions with officials from Bahrain, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, the EU and France. So, what are the real prospects of the Mideast conflict coming to an end soon? And how will it likely be resolved?
