University removed from AI summit after presenting Chinese robot as own
An Indian university sparked controversy at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. In an interview with state broadcaster DD News, Neha Singha, a professor at Galgotias University, appeared to claim that a Chinese-made robotic dog was the university’s own creation. Her remarks went viral on social media before being deleted. Social media users quickly identified the robot as the Unitree Go2, made by China’s Unitree Robotics. The incident drew criticism on social media and overshadowed the high-profile AI gathering. The university and the professor later said the remarks were misunderstood, issued a press release apologizing for the confusion, and denied any intent to misrepresent the product, adding that, in light of the organizer’s concerns, the university had vacated the premises.
