TTT Live Online Zones Of Special Operations Bill Defeated In Senate

The Government’s Zones of Special Operations (ZOSO) Bill, 2026, has been defeated in the Senate.
Eight of the nine Independent Senators voted against the legislation last night, with one Independent abstaining. Six Opposition senators also voted against the Bill.
Passage of the legislation required the support of at least four Independent Senators and a three-fifths majority.
The Bill would have empowered the Government to declare “zones of special operations” in areas identified as crime hotspots.
The Senate debate encompassed four days of deliberations, during which 27 members made contributions.
