Police Commissioner Cautions Public On Consequences Of Violent Online Posts

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has issued a warning regarding a rise in social media posts containing threats of violence, including threats directed at public officials.

The TTPS says this behaviour is unlawful, dangerous, and will not be tolerated.

The Service emphasises that freedom of expression does not extend to inciting violence or intimidating others. Under the Emergency Powers Regulations 2025, the Minister of National Security may issue Preventive Detention Orders against individuals who threaten public safety online.

The TTPS states that anyone using social media to make threats or encourage violence will face the full force of the law. The public is reminded to share opinions responsibly, as words have consequences.
