TTT Live Online Historic Win For NDP In SVG Election – PM Persad-Bissessar Congratulates Dr. Godwin Friday

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has extended congratulations to Dr. Godwin Friday, the Prime Minister-Elect of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, via a post on the social media platform X.

In her online post, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar acknowledged the overwhelming democratic mandate granted to the New Democratic Party (NDP) and its leader, Dr. Godwin Friday, by the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Dr. Friday is poised to become the fifth Prime Minister of the island nation since its independence in 1979. This ends the 24-year tenure of Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP). Dr. Gonsalves had served five consecutive terms in office since 2001 to 2025.

According to the Electoral Office, the ULP suffered a historic defeat, retaining only one seat in Parliament as the final tally stood at 14–1, with Dr. Gonsalves holding on to his North Central Windward constituency.
