Ahead of the APEC summit, leaders and businesspeople from various countries are gathering in Gyeongju, South Korea.
U.S. President Trump will arrive tomorrow (Oct. 29) and hold a summit with President Lee Jae Myung.
The ongoing issues of tariff negotiations and the revision of the nuclear agreement are expected to be important topics of discussion.

[Report]
U.S. President Trump will enter through Gimhae Inernational Airport tomorrow morning,
marking his first visit to South Korea in over six years, where he will hold a summit with President Lee Jae Myung.
This meeting comes about two months after their Washington summit, and attention is focused on whether the stalled Korea-U.S. tariff negotiations can reach a dramatic agreement through this summit.
[President Lee Jae Myung/Oct. 23/Interview with CNN: “I believe we will reach a rational conclusion that is logically acceptable.”]
President Lee has stated that he will not rush, but it cannot be ruled out that President Trump, who has declared that they are “close to an agreement,” may resolve the issues in a top-down manner.
There is also interest in whether the security negotiations, which have reached a partial agreement, will be concluded.
President Lee has expressed his intention to increase defense spending, and discussions on revising the Korea-U.S. nuclear agreement, linked to this, are reportedly quite advanced.
[Wi Sung-lac/Director of the National Security Office/Oct. 26/KBS 1TV Sunday Diagnosis: “The security area remains as it was back then. If the tariff side goes well this time, it could all come out at once.”]
However, there are voices suggesting that the U.S. prefers to conclude tariff and security negotiations simultaneously, and we need to consider whether it would be advantageous for us to separate the security agreement.
The presidential office is preparing the highest honors, including a special gift of a ‘Gyeongju Gold Crown’ for President Trump.
President Lee has been diligently checking the progress of the tariff negotiations today (Oct. 28) without any public schedule, preparing for the summit.
He will officially start the APEC schedule with a special speech at the opening ceremony of the CEO Summit tomorrow.
