Trump says, ‘We are fighting wars, we can’t take care of day care’
US President Trump says he told Russell Vought, director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), to cut federal day care funding, arguing it’s a state responsibility. “We can’t take care of day care. We’re a big country. We have 50 states. We are fighting wars, we can’t take care of day care” Trump said, suggesting states raise their own taxes to cover the gap.
Trump framed day care alongside Medicaid and Medicare as “little things” the federal government should offload to states, saying Washington’s core job is military protection. “We have to guard the country. But all these little things, all these little scams that have taken place, you have to let states take care of them.”
The comments come days after Trump requested a 10% cut to non-defense spending for fiscal year 2027, paired with a $500 billion increase in the military budget. The administration is currently deploying US service members to the Middle East as Americans contend with rising gas prices tied to ongoing conflict. #worldnow #us #trump
