Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian prime minister, has arrived at the White House for a meeting with Donald Trump expected to be dominated by U.S. attempts to persuade Hungary to end its reliance on Russian oil.

The U.S. wants Central Asia’s critical minerals. On Thursday President Trump met with five heads of state from the region as both America and Europe seek to diversify their chain of supplies after recent trade tensions with China.

In January Poland will become the only coal producer in the EU. That’s because the Czech Republic is closing its last remaining coal mine. Experts point out that Prague’s decision will only result in the country buying fossil fuel elsewhere and most likely from its northern neighbor.
