Trade likely to top agenda at ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur: Analyst
The upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur will kick off on Sunday (Oct 26). Analysts say the three-day event is poised to be one of the most significant regional gatherings in recent years. Key issues on the agenda include a Thai-Cambodia peace deal, the Gaza ceasefire and the South China Sea code of conduct. However, trade is expected to dominate discussions, with United States President Donald Trump’s attendance giving regional leaders a rare opportunity for direct talks on tariffs. Lynn Kuok, the Lee Kuan Yew Chair in Southeast Asia Studies at the Brookings Institution, shares insights on the topics likely to be discussed at the summit on CNA’s Asia First.
