Jo Ann Bland, Lifelong Civil Rights Activist, Dies at 72
Jo Ann Bland, a lifelong civil rights activist who marched at Selma in support of voting rights when she was just a child, has died at 72. The demonstration in Selma was met with violent resistance from Alabama state troopers as peaceful protesters crossed the Edmund Pettus bridge in what’s remembered as the Bloody Sunday event.
