Thorne calls for balance between creativity and morality
Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne has commended Government’s move to empower young people through the new Copyright Bill 2025 — but he’s warning that material gain should not come at the expense of moral standards.
Speaking during debate in the House of Assembly, he said while young people should be encouraged to harness and monetise their talent, artists must also be mindful of the influence their work has on their audiences, particularly children.
Citing what he described as growing social dysfunction and violence in society, the Opposition Leader said the country needs to return to its literary and cultural roots.
The Copyright Bill 2025 seeks to modernise Barbados’ copyright laws to better protect creators and promote innovation across the cultural industries.
