Thirteen Lebanese Security Forces Members Killed In Israeli Strikes Laid To Rest
Thirteen members of Lebanon’s State Security Service were laid to rest in the southern city of Sidon on Saturday, a day after they were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Nabatieh. The funerals drew large crowds of mourners, including family members, friends, and fellow security personnel, as coffins draped in the Lebanese flag and bearing the officers’ photographs were carried to their final resting place.

The strike forms part of a broader escalation of hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, with a series of attacks targeting southern Lebanon and the capital, Beirut, in recent days. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 1,953 people have been killed since the latest phase of the conflict began. In one of the deadliest episodes, approximately 100 strikes hit multiple locations across the country within just ten minutes on Wednesday, leaving at least 303 people dead and causing extensive destruction in densely populated areas.

Amid the escalating violence, diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions. Direct talks between the Lebanese government and Israel are scheduled to begin in Washington on Tuesday, mediated by U.S. diplomats. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s office has reiterated Beirut’s position that negotiations should take place under a ceasefire or truce. Meanwhile, civil defence teams continue search and rescue operations in Beirut, looking for victims still trapped beneath the rubble.
