Students encouraged to read and soar like never before
Local primary school children are being encouraged to read and soar like never before.

This, as they observed Education and Dyslexia Month during Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School’s Literacy Day.

Guest readers, Astra Babb, teacher Lynette Thompson, and graduate Michael “Mikey” Mercer, read to the students.

As part of the festivities, classroom doors were decorated with inspiration from Afro-Caribbean stories such as Anansi, and students took part in a treasure hunt called the “Literacy Walk.”

Teacher Tameisha Odle, who is responsible for remedial reading, believes it is important for students to relate to what they are reading.
