Stuck in a ship graveyard #bangaldesh #shipbreaking
Ship breaking is one of the world’s most dangerous jobs, and it’s also a notorious polluter.
An international convention for safe and ‘environmentally sound’ ship recycling came into force worldwide in June. Ship breaking yards will be forced to meet new green standards.
Earlier this year, Dateline travelled to Bangladesh – the world’s biggest ship breaker – to meet workers in an industry where there have been at least 38 deaths and 177 injuries in the last five years.
