Slovak expert: NATO faces major trust crisis since Cold War #worldnow
In recent months, disagreements between the United States and Europe have widened over issues such as security policy and military actions against Iran, intensifying internal contradictions within NATO.
Michal Bartek, vice chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security of the Slovak Republic, said in an interview with CMG that NATO is facing one of the most serious trust crises since the end of the Cold War.
Bartek pointed out that the US and Europe have long disputed over security responsibilities and alliance obligations, as US President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO allies for “free-riding” on defense issues and accused European countries of failing to meet military spending targets. The dissatisfaction also extends to issues such as Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, while the recent situation involving Iran has further deepened the rift between the two sides.
