Slim majority in Southeast Asia would align with China over US if forced to choose sides: Poll
Shifting priorities are emerging across Southeast Asia amid a volatile geopolitical landscape. That’s according to an ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute survey, which polled more than 2,000 policymakers, analysts and business leaders in the region. US leadership under Donald Trump overtook South China Sea tensions as the top regional concern. Meanwhile, China remains the most influential economic power in the region. When asked to choose between the US and China, respondents remained divided but 52% leaned towards China. This reverses last year’s result when a majority chose the US. Even so, most respondents preferred not to choose sides. Afifah Ariffin reports.
