Shanghai's pioneering fully-implanted BCI restored a paralyzed man's ability to write

Five years ago, Mr. Dong, then working in Singapore, suffered a car accident that left him with severe quadriplegia, losing all mobility in his limbs.

It was the brain-computer interface team at Huashan Hospital that gave him a new lease on life.

Now, he can already attempt to write a message of thanks to his doctors with a trembling hand.

This case marks Shanghai’s first fully implanted BCI surgery.

In the past year, the Huashan team has expanded its work to dozens of BCI clinical surgeries in collaboration with nearly ten domestic leaders.Huashan Hospital
