ShanghaiEye魔都眼 Pharma giant Lilly opens Shanghai lab for biomed startups as its century-long China co-op continues​

Global pharma giant Eli Lilly Thursday has opened Lilly Gateway Labs Shanghai, its second China innovation hub after Beijing. The new lab, in the heart of Zhangjiang Science City in Pudong, will provide high-end lab space to selected startups, helping them speed up development of breakthrough medicines while remaining independent. The first company has already signed to move in.

Lilly now has five Gateway Labs worldwide, and China is the only country outside the US to host them.

Known for developing the world’s first synthetic insulin, Eli Lilly opened its first overseas rep office in Shanghai a century ago, and its China Innovation & Partnership Center has teamed up with over 30 leading Chinese biopharma and biotech firms since 2018.
