A Firsthand Look at Cotton Harvesting in Xinjiang 压榨人权?直击新疆棉花采摘第一现场!

hina produces about one quarter of the world’s cotton and more than 90% of it comes from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Cotton cultivation in Xinjiang dates back to the second century BC when trade along the Silk Road spread cotton cultivation techniques from Central and West Asia. Xinjiang was thus one of the earliest regions in China to grow cotton.

So what is it like to farm cotton in Xinjiang today? How developed is the industrial chain? My colleagues and I went to Kashi in southern Xinjiang during the cotton harvest to find out.
