Russia has come out in support of ally Iran over the United Nations sanctions against Tehran’s nuclear program. The Russian foreign ministry in a statement noted that the ten-year period established by UN Security Council Resolution 2231 since the adoption of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (#JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program expires on Friday. Moscow has urged the UN Security Council must conclude its consideration of matters related to the Iranian nuclear program. The item “Non-proliferation” should be removed from the Council’s agenda.
