Rescue of downed US airman in Iran showed ‘operational panic’: Analyst
A high-risk United States rescue mission deep inside Iran on Sunday (Apr 5) nearly went awry after two military aircraft broke down, briefly leaving elite commandos at risk of being stranded behind enemy lines before a last-minute extraction of a second downed airman succeeded. Speaking to CNA’s Asia First, Allan Behm from the international and security affairs programme at the Australia Institute says the mission highlights US military capability but showed signs of “operational panic”. He warns that the war on Iran may not be winnable through military means alone and could be entering a more unpredictable and dangerous phase.
