Protesters, police face off at California Coast Guard base #CGTN

Tense scenes were seen in California on October 23 as protesters faced off with police over the arrival of federal agents at a Coast Guard base in the area.

Riot police blocked protesters in Alameda as they gathered against the presence of the agents.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday, the Trump administration would send more than 100 federal agents to the city to ramp up immigration enforcement.

However, later on Thursday, President Donald Trump said in a social media post that he was calling off the plan after speaking with the city’s mayor and prominent business leaders, marking a surprising reversal.
