Protecting wintering waterbirds at Dongting Lake in China’s Hunan Province
In today’s episode of CGTN’s “2026–2030: The Journey Ahead” series, we take you to central China’s Hunan Province. Dongting Lake is a vital wintering habitat for migratory birds along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. This winter, more than 480,000 waterbirds made their home in Hunan. It’s the highest number on record, with the vast majority concentrated in the Dongting Lake area. CGTN reporter Zheng Songwu visited one of the protection stations there to see firsthand how these winter visitors are being safeguarded.
